RE: Let's say I break into your house ... Whose house?

Another spin on “your house” just occurred to me. How hypocritical is it for us to take land from Mexico and bar them from entering under the premise that it is OUR house. We didn’t even bother to rename the house. We still call it California, Texas, Los Angeles, and San Jose. How can you have an English only movement in a house that still carries its Spanish name?

It’s worth knowing that almost half of the names of the states in the US are derived from the Indians who have the right to claim this as their house. Only 8 of the 50 are based on English and half of those are hybrids (eg. Delaware was originally de la Guerre, "of the war".)

You don’t even need to go all of the way back to the Indians. California and Texas were taken from Mexico in the 1800s.

Whose house? Again, let’s not start the story in the middle. Again, what would you do if you built a shelter for the homeless, and the first homeless people that moved in decided to keep all further homeless people out?

I reject the premise. This isn’t “your” house. We are all immigrants, and what immigrants can forget in just one generation is amazing.

We are a nation full of immigrants who are only here because the last set of immigrants wanted someone else to sweep their floors and tend their fields. It is also important to remember that it is “In God we Trust”, and ours is a God of immigrants who loves and protects immigrants. All of His favorite people were migrant workers. A pharaoh in Egypt once tried to restrict the free movement of his people and we know how God ended that story.

The bible doesn’t just talk about Immigration. It is a book that was written by migrant workers to make sure their children didn’t forget where they came from.

Nearly every major biblical story is about migration. Nearly every major biblical figure is a migrant [worker]: Adam (kicked out of Eden),Cain, Noah, Abraham, Lot, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob/Israel, Joseph (and all of his brothers), Moses (worth noting that there is a whole book called Exodus), Daniel, Isaiah, Ruth, Job, Jesus (interesting to reread the Samaritan story for its WWJD on immigration), Paul (and almost all of the disciples for that matter).

Again, the Bible is a book about immigration by immigrants. As such, you won’t be surprised to learn that, according to the Bible, those who mistreat immigrants will not enter Heaven. A couple of quotes:

Malachi 3:5, God says,“….I will be swift to bear witness against….those who oppress the hired workers in their wages, the widow and the orphan, against those who thrust aside the alien, and do not fear me, says the Lord of Hosts.”

Matthew 25:35-41. Jesus says, “…for I was hungry and you gave me food, … just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”

Taking God’s point of view, the author might have started with the following premise:

What would you do if you built a shelter for the homeless, and the first homeless people that moved in decided to keep all further homeless people out?

Let's say I break into your house

A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials in ages!!! It explains things better than all the baloney you hear on TV.

Her point:

Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.

Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely.

Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests. Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave.

But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors. I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house) .

According to the protesters:

You are Required to let me stay in your house You are Required to add me to your family's insurance plan You are Required to Educate my kids You are Required to Provide other benefits to me & to my family

(my husband will do all of your yard work because he is also hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part).

If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my RIGHT to be there.

It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm a hard-working and honest, person, except for well, you know, I did break into your house

And what a deal it is for me!!!

I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of cold, uncaring, selfish, prejudiced, and bigoted behavior.

Oh yeah, I DEMAND that you to learn MY LANGUAGE!!! so you can communicate with me.

Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?! Only in America . if you agree, pass it on ( in English). Share it if you see the value of it. If not blow it off......... along with your future Social Security funds, and a lot of other things.
