Black people are racist. This simple statement was refuted in nearly every Africana Studies class in the past 40 years. Africana studies proferssors would tell you that racism is prejudice plus power. There argument is that, without power, Blacks merely have preferences that cannot cause injury.
What happens when Blacks have power, though. What happens when Blacks are millionaires, media moguls, CEOs, Congressmen, and dare I say it, Presidents? With power, our prejudices become racist. Our jokes about white people become racist. Our jokes about Hillary Clinton become sexist.
We need to own our empowerment and stop playing the victim. We have billionaire media moguls like Oprah and Bob Johnson and have the ability to create positive images of African Americans instead of blaming "the media". The number of Black Mayors in the US has risen to 480 since 1970.
African Americans are entering a new era. A five year old might understandably yell at his parent's in frustration, but at 35, yelling at your parents is not quite so forgivable. Similarly, African Americans need to take responsibility for what we say about other groups. Jokes that were forgivable in the 70s are simply offensive now.
"For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required"
