I frequently am asked for ideas for new businesses. I don't often hear ideas I like, but a list of the ones I find most interesting might prove useful if one of us suddenly ends up needing to work for ourselves.

Tech Enthusiasts>

  • Quized access to child's computer: Child must answer age appropriate questions before accessing their cell or computer. Questions could be about specific subjects, the bible/koran, current events, etc.
  • Start a group blog: A group of passionate know-it-alls could raise a little extra cash maintaining a informational site commenting on their favorite site for a specific audience.


Greenies

  • Invest in commodities like oil and gold
  • Buy land on the fringes of cities to capitalize on urban sprawl or
  • Buy blighted property on bus/train routes to capitalize on a shift to public transportation


Counter Recessionistas>

  • Invest in commodities like oil and gold
  • Save like you will be out of work for 6 months in 2009
  • Buy distressed properties


Go with What You Know

  • Consult/Teach something you did in your twenties
  • Survey an emerging micro-industry and sell the results.
