Obamas decision to opt out of public funding was kind of a no-brainer. It was a choice between giving McCain something bad to say about him or having the ability to drown everything McCain says out.
Polls also show that this is not an issue Americans care much about. Republicans and independents even tend to be against public funding. So, I doubt McCain will get far here.
The bigger problem is 5-10 years from now when Republicans are back to raising more money than Democrats. Then, WE'LL be wishing everyone had to stick with public funding.
