A Second Term for Christmas

Retail may save Obama's butt. All he really needs is job growth

I'm about to go Rachel Maddow geeky on ya'll, but you are going to hear a lot about this right before the election. A really interesting thing is about to happen to the numbers, and noone will talk about this until RIGHT before the election.

The US lost about 3M jobs during the recession. It was still losing 800k/month when Obama walked into office. He has nearly added them all back. In fact, on election day, he will have added almost EXACTLY the number lost.

On Jan 2009, when he walked into office, the US had 133.561M jobs. At the end of August, it had 133.325. That means he needs to add 118k/month to say he reversed Bush's damage. During the last two months, he added 119k. The umpire is going to have to call this one at the plate.

The good news is that Christmas is coming and Toys R Us an Walmart alone are adding 95k jobs. Add in Kohls, and Obama needs to add just 87k more jobs to say,... should I say it? ... "Mission Accomplished!"

Toys R Us to Hire 45,000 for the Holidays Published September 25, 2012 Reuters Toys R Us on Tuesday said it would hire 45,000 seasonal employees for the upcoming holiday shopping period, becoming the latest retailer to increase its hiring in anticipation of a modest bump in consumer spending. The toy store chain hired 40,000 season workers last year, 15 percent of whom were kept after the holidays ended. Last week, Wal-Mart Stores Inc said it planned to hire more than 50,000 seasonal employees to work at its Walmart stores in the United States, slightly more than last year, while department store operator Kohl's Corp said it would hire 52,700 people, or 10 percent more than last year.
