Obama’s presidency should be impossible. The key swing states are MI, PA, FL, OH, and NC. The presidency should only be available to a moderate Democrat that can pull a right leaning state like John Edwards from NC or Republican that can pull left leaning states like Mitt Romney from Michigan. Instead, Edwards flamed out with an old flame and the Romney fumbled Michigan. This has the left the country wide open to a Black man.
This map shows the political map as it should be. It is what the electorate would look like if the parties were rational and had run a white guy from NC against an automotive guy from Michigan. In fact, Romney is almost perfect. He was born to take the election from Obama. If Romney had not penned “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt" article, if he hadn't called half the country moochers, if his firm hadn't personally purchased and bankrupted automotive companies, he would be winning the rust belt states (MI, PA, and OH) easily. He’s from MI and his father was a very famous ex governor.
On race, if the democrats were running someone like John Edwards, they’d have NC and FL wrapped up just like the map shows and it would be a close race between two write guys. Instead, the economy isn’t driving this race. NC is having a hard time voting for a black liberal from Chicago and the rust belt is struggling with voting for a ruthless banker from MA. Romney cannot seem to catch a break. He tried to jump on stage with Paul Ryan to the song, “The Boys are Back in Town”, a simple rock/country song from an Irish band. It turns out the lead singer is half Black with nearly exactly Obama’s lineage. His mother is on record saying her sone would never have agreed with Romney’s politics.
I’m still amazed that neither party has been able to produce a strong candidate from the critical states of OH and FL. That’s all that matters and no one moderate and electable seems to be coming from these places.
Obama is right when he says how improbable it is that a Black man would be sitting in his seat. Its almost as if God had a hand in choosing the people he has run against.
